Lou

Meet Lou, our changeling puppy. Lou doesn't resemble any of his siblings. HIs coat is a grayish-gold-chocolate-white and it feels like velvet. Lou is an 8-week Australian Shepherd mix. What the mix is we don't know. Perhaps Boxer or a similar breed? Lou weighs about 11 pounds right now, has been dewormed twice, and had his first vaccines this week. Lou's mother Maya, an Australian Shepherd dog, was found abandoned and pregnant in eastern Washington.

Lou is an all boy puppy. He's funny, friendly, and a good listener. Once you get him in your lap he settles in to hear about your day and let you get some serotonin petting his silky coat and playing with his soft ears. He'll offer nibble kisses and a tongue bath too if you snuggle him next to your face. He joins in all the puppy games but generally doesn't instigate any. More of a follower than a leader in the pack. His absolute favorite thing is sleeping in your lap like a limp rag. Lou is a splooter like the rest of his siblings.

Lou is in Portland, OR. If you are interested in adopting him please apply on our website at:

https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html

LUANNE

This is Luanne, she is 6 years old and is about 65 pounds.

She is a blue heeler mix who is fully up to date on vaccines and is fixed. She is potty trained and is very communicative about when she needs to go outside.

We are looking to rehome her because we have a baby on the way and dont feel like we will be able to adequately care for her in our little house with a new born baby. She doesnt have a lot of experience with children, but she has been a loving part of me and my wife’s life so far. She has lived with other dogs and other cats before and does not have any issues cohabitating with them.

She loves being outside so a backyard is a must! If you are interested in meeting Luanne, please reach out to graham.cr.baker@gmail.com

Bella

Her name is Bella. She was born in 2015.

Vaccinated, fixed. Friendly and love outdoors. Calm and very cooperative. She is Australlian cattle sheep with 1/8th of pitbull mix. Has no issues like damaging things or biting things. She barks at strangers or dogs for a few seconds and then stops when she finds they aren't threatening.

She was trained by my husband. We take her outside with our kid for evening walk and she love that walk.

We have started with school again and our second kid on the way. With everything we find it difficult to take care of her and the house. That's the only reason to find her a new home. We will only put for adoption to a good dog friendly family or family with  children who are willing to play with her and take her out or someone we think she will be happy with.

If interested in learning more about Bella please email oshin40@gmail.com

TOBY

Toby is 12 yo, in good health, chipped, flea med and vaccinations  UTD.  His owner, prior to us, died last summer.  He had been with him since he was 6 months old.  Toby came to us with a history of anxiety and separation anxiety.  We have worked with Toby and his vet over the past 10 months to help with this adjustment.  He is currently on a calm chew once a day, trazadone as needed (rarely) and Prozac 10 mg. once a day.  Along with this we have done basic training and commands using a rug for place and hand signals and words to help him with anxiety around someone coming through the door.  Aside from this, he is mellow, sleeps much of the day and is a very sweet dog.  He loves to go on a walk.  Because he has been with a single man most of his life, it would be best if he had a one person household that was home much of the time and did not have a lot of company.  He is socialized around children but too excitable, barks, wants to lick their face, follow them everywhere, etc.  He loves other small dogs and on regular basis and sees a family of 3 for play dates.  No biting at anyone except my husbands pant legs occasionally when he comes through the door or gets up from the chair.  It is because of this closeness to his feet that we need to re home.  My husband was recently put on a blood thinner and cannot risk falling.  In addition, my adult son has moved home which means there are too many people here for Toby. He likes it quiet with just one person to love.  He would love to sleep in a bed but we have trained him to sleep on a dog bed next to our bed.  He sleeps all through the night.  Is potty trained and goes to door to signal need.  Does not like the crate.  We have all supplies that he needs, as well as his medical records from the past 12 years.

SHINER

A 2.5-year-old male cattle dog mix is in need of rehoming.

Located in Central Oregon, Shiner is a 40-lb cattle dog mix, who has been with his owners since he was 8 weeks old. Shiner is such a sweet, smart, VERY trainable, and loving boy, until he is not. Given his numerous (and mostly random) attacks towards his owners, he needs to be rehomed to a family with NO children. He is extremely athletic and will run for miles and jump high to catch a ball (and great with fetching), and so easily trainable, but the owners are unable to get his aggression towards them under control. He would likely thrive on a farm where he can be "working."

He is neutered and caught up on vaccines. 100% potty trained, crate trained, and non-destructive when left alone freely in the house (he will just sleep).

His current owners have tried SEVERAL trainers, muzzle training, prong collar, shock collar, crating, medication (for 2 years), and nothing has worked to eliminate his aggression. It's to the point where they are afraid of him and it's impacting the way they live.

Please call Hilary at 971-222-7573 or email hilary.schider@gmail.com if you are able to help. She is willing to drive him just about anywhere. This is their last chance to save him and they are desperate. We would be so grateful to know that Shiner can live his full life. PLEASE HELP!

PRINCE

This Prince is Looking for His Forever Home!
Name: Prince
Age: 5 ½ years old
Breeds: 25% American Staffordshire Terrier
25% Blue Tick Coonhound
12.5% Heeler/Cattle Dog
12.5% Boxer
25% "Herding/Guard Breeds"
Location: Portland, but open to travel (WA, CA, OR) for the right fit
Contact: Holly Horan – 248.259.0335 or hollymhoran@gmail.com
We adopted Prince as an 8 week old puppy and while we love him dearly, we now
have a 14 month old and Prince is not adjusting well. We are giving him all we can, but
it’s just not enough and it’s become apparent that he’s unhappy/becoming more
anxious by the day. We truly believe there’s a situation out there where he’ll be so
much happier.
Ideal households for Prince:
1. Someone with an active lifestyle looking for an adventure buddy. Prince loves
to hike, swim, run and play, and when he’s tired he’s a much more relaxed
version of himself
2. A home with a lot of property where he can be outside most of the day -
roaming free and lounging
Note - older kids in the home may be ok, but younger kids would not. He does great
with small/medium sized dogs, but can be weird with bigger dogs. Not good with cats.
He has his cuddly moments, but is also very content in his own space and does well
when left home alone. He is vocal and responds to certain stimuli - particularly
skateboards/scooters and any animals he sees on the TV. We’ve met with behavioral
trainers to work on these quirks, but someone with more time and energy to put into
training may have more success. He’s currently on Fluoxetine and Trazodone to help
with his anxiety (has been on them for three years).
Overall Prince is a very sweet and fun loving dog, but in the long run we do think
rehoming is best for all parties, and we are committed to finding a his new forever
home.

JACK

I adopted Jack just over four years ago from Family Dogs New Life Shelter. I was looking for a mellow, house-trained dog and Jack fit the bill. He is a sensitive and sweet dog that rarely barks, doesn't need a ton of exercise, and mostly just does his own thing (can act more like a cat than a dog). They estimated his age to be between 3 and 5 when I adopted him, which puts him between 7 and 9 now.
The past four years have had their ups and downs, and unfortunately I am now needing to find a new loving home for Jack due to needing to spend time with my family in Hawaii and my partner's anxiety, which Jack's anxiety can trigger.

Some of the positives: many van adventures/road trips, walks around the block and hangs in the backyard, and pets and head scratches while watching movies. Some of the challenges: navigating his separation anxiety (which he is now on meds for), having to board him fairly often due to frequent travel, and having to learn that he is aggressive with other dogs until he gets to know them

I believe Jack would do okay in a home with another dog, as long as they were introduced slowly and he didn't see the other dog as a threat. Cats and other animals should be fine. A home with small children wouldn't be a good option as he has some sensitive areas (his back and butt) that if touched unexpectedly he might freak out a little.

I think he would do very well in a home with some land where he can roam and have some space. It is a very hard decision to rehome Jack but I am excited to find him a home that will support his needs and quality of life.

Thanks for considering adopting Jack, who is such a sweet dog. For more info, please email: orionfalvey@gmail.com.

Cookie

Looking for a nice calm home for this one. She is about 7/8. I'm not exactly sure what breed she is, just know shes a pitbull of sorts. Spayed and UTD on shots as of a couple years ago. Crate trained, potty trained. She loves kids and gets quite protective pretty fast even when she doesn't know the kid. Rough housing gets her excited and she will tend to push her way through, in s playful manner, to make sure kids are not harmed. Shes not too fond of cats/ chickens etc. and she gets along with most dogs as long as they aren't around her food or trying to dominate her. There is a certain type of person she is weary of. She can definitely sense fear or uncertainty and can react on that. She's never bit anyone and is mainly all bark but does have a deep snarl/ growl when she is scared or being protective. She is a love bug, loves to cuddle, lay in bed with you, sometimes under the covers. She does have a playful side as well. I'm having to move where I can't take her, I absolutely hate it but I dont have a choice and I'm running out of options right now. I'm not worried about a fee but I will want to do a home check.

Pig

This is Pig. He is 3-years old and non-neutered. He is up to date on all of his shots. Unfortunately, his owner passed away suddenly two weeks ago. We are looking to re-home him as soon as possible.

We would encourage a home without children. We are unsure how he may be. He lived with other dogs and elderly. We are unsure about cats. He is a sweet boy that needs a lot of attention.

Thank you! For more info please email amyhobbsha@gmail.com

Güla

Güla (sounds like goo-luh) is a young Pit Bull/ Shar Pei mix weighing about 50lbs. She's just under two years old and came to Oregon last September from an overcrowded California shelter.

Great in the car, house and crate trained.

Would pair best with a home with no kids, or dog respectful kids over the age of 8. She is nervous around younger children. No food allergies or sensitivities.

Gula is working on loose leash walking and general obedience training and she's making great progress. Food is her favorite. Gula is medium to high energy, really enjoys being outside and would pair well with a family or individual that has a big back yard or property, but can also be a lap or couch potato true to her bully breed.
She enjoys the company of other dogs and being in a pack, but can be selective about other dogs and will require a slow introduction. Gula is working through leash reactivity with other dogs while on walks and stranger danger (humans) in new spaces. For this reason I am looking to rehome her so she can have an easier trajectory in the world. I have been working with her on redirection using treats as positive reinforcement and she has made a lot of progress! For this reason she would be best suited to live outside of the city or apartment complex where she is not faced with on leash meets on such a regular basis.

SKLYAR

Skylar was adopted from the OHS after a car accident broke his pelvis and tail. After dedicated work he has made a full recovery and is a spunky, sweet, cuddly best friend.

Once bonded with you, he will always be your shadow and your cuddle buddy. He is fiercely loyal and bonds quickly. He loves walks, playing fetch, and all the cuddles. He is truly a little miracle!

He just turned 7 years old and is a terrier mix. He would benefit from a quiet low traffic household without other pets or small children.

Cold weather sometimes causes his pelvic pain to flare up but he hasn't needed his pain medication in a very long time. Benefits from frequent short walks to get the joints moving. He has a bone spur on his spine and you should avoid putting direct pressure on his lower back.

He is housebroken, but due to his previous injuries, he needs to be relieved every two to four hours during the day or he will "leak" a little when excited or napping, so you will need to keep a pad on his bed, but he usually sleeps through the night without needing to go out.

Skylar is ready and excited for his forever home!

If interested, contact Hannah Clark at 503-939-2106. Skylar is located in Clackamas OR.

KOOPA

Koopa is a 3 year old lab mix, 92 pounds. He is a lovely dog, smart, sociable, cuddly and trainable, a ham, and a charmer. Everyone who meets him falls in love and he has made a lot of human friends through his charisma. However, he has one too many issues for my spouse and I to handle (I am dealing with a chronic illness that is often debilitating and I don't have the emotional or logistical space to get him the stability, training, and management he needs. My spouse has caregiver burnout from taking care of me for the past year.) Additionally he shouldn't be off-leash due to prey drive, but we have a tiny backyard. He needs to run!

Koopa's great qualities:

Trainable, obedient, and knows many commands.

Generally good on leash after training heel for a few months.

Affectionate, snuggly, and hilarious. Gets along well with human strangers.

Doesn't bark much after he learns the sounds of the environment. Only barks to alert us of someone at the door.

Non-destructive

Doesn't get on furniture

Doesn't snatch food off the counters

Can be left home alone with free roam of the house. We have never had an issue.

Extremely well-behaved

Koopa's not-great qualities:

He is a resource guarder of varying intensities of food, treats, and toys, and has a single-bite history. He bit my brother, who was a guest in our house, because a piece of chicken fell on the floor nearby (did not draw blood or leave a mark).

He has a very high prey drive and shouldn't be off-leash. Walking him, he should have a head harness in case he lunges/bolts for a rabbit or squirrel.

He chased and bit a small dog at the dog park.

He is leash reactive toward other dogs. We've worked on it, but he'll likely need more training on this.

His threshold for stress is low. Too many new things at once can overwhelm him, and he regresses in his behavior when stressed out.

Will bark and growl at strangers when they come to the door (but then collapse into them with his tongue lolling out and act very friendly.)

He may have a traumatic past

Koopa's ideal home:

No cats

No small children. Teenagers could be fine.

No other dogs due to guarding.

Backyard where he can run around safely off-leash

Someone experienced with resource guarding behaviors and aggression, who can set him on the right path and give him the time and attention needed to help him thrive.

Someone who can handle him on leash if he lunges or bolts for a small animal.

If you are interested in meeting Koopa, please feel free to reach out at millerpatros@gmail.com

CLARA

Meet Clara!

Clara is the most loving dog towards her family and dog companion. We do think she’d do best as the only dog for awhile to really work on training. Any kind of formal training and more socialization will be the key to her success. She is a reactive barker (loud noises, people/dogs approaching her) but I’ve had successful training sessions where I’ve seen improvement; I am just simply not consistent enough.

She follows you everywhere and wants to play outside any chance she gets. Clara is very unique and chases lights and shadows 24 hours a day if given the opportunity. We’ve been told it’s just her breed, but have seen similar dogs able to train out of it given time and patience. I’d consider her hyperactive but she calms down after getting exercise (LOVES fetch and hide n seek with treats).

She needs a lot of patience with training due to the shadow chasing and energetic nature. With yummy treats she loves learning commands. She’s NOT leash trained. She IS potty trained and uses potty bells (still working on the bells). She IS crate trained.

Clara is a very special girl and we want the best for her!”

Phone number: 360-813-8710 for texts or phone/voicemails.

DEBBIE

Debbie is a high energy dog she’s good with other animals but needs a lot of attention. She needs a yard to run around in and needs lots of attention. She loves water going to the river and running around. Also love’s attention and having her belly rubbed. She needs a loving home and some training she is puppy pad trained.

SASSY

Hi. This is Sassy.  She is a purebred cocker spaniel, 8-9 years old, spayed, current on shots, and recently groomed.  She doesn't do well with other dogs, but cats are okay. She has also been around chickens that are free range and she doesn't bother them. She's never been around small children (though she may be fine with them).  She is super sweet, loves attention, and cuddles. Somewhat timid when meeting new people, but overall is a very well mannered. She is really good in the car and loves long car rides.  She was a companion to an elderly person who can no longer care for her.

If you are looking for a sweet companion dog this is the one.

PETRA

This is Petra. Petra is a 1.5 year old female Pit Bull who was found abandoned, starving, and locked up in a batting cage in the heat of California. We adopted her through a rescue team, but she’s proving to be too much for us to handle and her extra puppy energy is more than we had expected or been prepared for. Petra is spayed and up to date on all shots. She’s also leash trained and crate trained! Her favorite thing to do is chase tennis balls (or destroy them) and go on car rides, she thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and absolutely loves children, but she would do best in a home with no other pets. Petra is working on being house broken, but she is highly motivated by treats and affection.

If you can give this sweetheart a good loving
home, please contact Kristen at (757) 386-6877 by text, or email at taylorsawyer27@yahoo.com

Domino

Domino came into our lives in December 2019. We found him here on Adoptapet where his foster family was looking for a good home for him. As a puppy he was adopted from a Sacramento, CA shelter twice and returned twice before going to the foster home we received him from.

He's been a fantastic dog with a few bumps on the way. He's wonderful with all of our kids (12, 5, 2, 8m) and even loves cats, though our cat Panzer is not his biggest fan.

Domino needs a home where he can be a primary focus of attention. He seems to suffer from anxiety tied to his failed adoptions as a puppy. His fosters informed us the adopters said he had "too much energy." In our experience he is no more energetic than a normal dog. He would probably do best with a single adult or a home with teens so he can receive the love and attention he deserves. We love him very much, but he is not getting what he needs with our schedule.
